arranged by godin, taurelle the original trakc was written by georg christian lehms, composed by bach and adapted from bach cantata widerstehe doch der sünde bwv 54. here bach�s church cantata for solo voice meets languid gainsbourg & birkin, albeit in german, with exquisite choir and strings. nicolas godin says i wanted songs on contrepoint, to act like poles that hold up a tent. this piece starts with a very strange chord, which was avant garde for its day. bach�s scores are outside any rules, which i wanted to exploit. i also wanted the lyric in german because no one expects german to sound sexy and cool. the main singer is gordon tracks. the other voice is dorothée de koon, a friend of a french artist i know - they both have german blood.

the b side features two more melodic cuts. *archer* stresses the journey into the cold, with its synth work nearing dissonance, while remaining in complex and admirable harmony. the title track *northbound* is a more straight forward loop, which builds up to something rather chilly and unheard before.
